An annual event since July 2019 that echoes the mantra from Disney's Lilo & Stitch: "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." This year (our 5th) we distributed over 400 swag bags to patients at Connecticut Children's, over 12 inpatient and outpatient units. The bags included some fun Ohana-themed items for patients as well as a gift card for the whole family.
As a recipient of these swag bags all I can say is thank you! We are big Disney fans and were completely blown away at how generous and fun these bags are! And the decorations are such a fun touch! This is an amazing way to honor your son and to give back. This feels weird because I don’t even know you but I have been thinking about your family all day.
thank you! We have been thinking about your family all day. Thanks for bringing light to our life in honor of your Andrew.
Gracias por su donación. Mi hijo recibió una de ellas. La amo.
Our supporters purchased one blanket for themselves, and a second blanket went to a patient at Connecticut Children's.
With your support we delivered 350 blankets
to the hospital.
Being admitted to the hospital with a new diagnosis can be scary. We've created these colorful comfort packs with a blanket and pillowcase to help brighten a patient's room and provide a little warmth.
Many of these kiddos spend lots of nights inpatient - and that becomes challenging for the entire family. Instead of having to get "take-out" we bring dinner IN for patients and families. We work with Salute Restaurant to create a "Family Dinner for 4" which includes pasta, chicken parm and Salute's famous garlic bread. We also throw in a Starbucks gift card and a toy for the patient (Stitch, of course)!
Sometimes letting a patient and family know they're not alone is a great source of comfort. Together with Connecticut Children's Sunflower Kids program, we create customized care packages for patients.
Dear Members of the Andrew’s Ohana Foundation Family,
We have been at Connecticut Children’s Hospital for the past several days after Wyatt was admitted for a a large blood clot in his leg due to complications from his lupus condition. Lupus has dealt Wyatt some serious setbacks and blows these past two years and this latest hospitalization really deflated him on every level.
We cannot tell you how grateful and surprised we were to receive a delicious, warm and nourishing meal that was delivered to our room. The pasta, chicken, garlic bread and salad were all delicious and after days of uninspiring hospital food, this was such an amazing gift.
But more than just the gift of the good food, was the thoughtfulness, care and empathy behind the gift. Your compassion for children and their families going through medical treatments at Children’s is so apparent in this wonderful gesture.
This has been a tough time for Wyatt, but your foundation’s gift of dinner, the Stitch plush toy and the Dunkin’ gift card will always be the bright spot that we remember during his stay at the hospital.
Thank you,
Molly and Wyatt
